Gerald D. Boyer, Jr., “Gary”, 77, of Danville, PA, passed away peacefully on February 5, 2022


 
 
 

DANVILLE, PA ~ Gerald D. Boyer, Jr., “Gary”, 77, of Danville, PA, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 5, 2022, at Grandview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Danville. He was born November 21, 1944, in Union City Indiana, the son of the late Gerald D., Sr. and Whilma D. Miller Boyer.


He is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Sharon L. Jantzen Boyer of Danville PA. They were married September 20, 1969.


He graduated from Pleasant View High School in Ohio. He also attended Ohio State University.

Gary served in the United States Army Reserve as a percussionist in the Army Band.


He was employed as a Purchase Manager for Chef Boyardee in Milton for many years.


Gary was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Danville PA where he served as a Lector and a Cantor and enjoyed being a member of the choir. His other memberships included Southside Fire Company in Riverside where he was a former Fire Chief. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.


An accomplished and talented musician, Gary was a member of the Kiltie Band in York PA, The Sunbury City Band, The Danville American Legion Band and played in the Bloomsburg University Orchestra.


A kind and considerate man, Gary will be remembered by many for his selfless passion for firefighting. He had an easy-going demeanor that put everyone at ease. He loved his family and will be dearly missed.


In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Amanda K. Boyer of Valley View PA and two grandchildren: Zachary Boyer-Bankes of Sayre PA and

Emma A. Shaffer of Valley View PA.


Relatives and friends are invited to a Prayer Service to be held Wednesday, February 16, 2022 at 7:00 PM at Visneski Funeral Home, Inc., 42 W. Mahoning St. Danville, PA 17821 with Father Benedict Faneye, OP Geisinger Hospice Chaplain as Celebrant. Friends will be received from 06:00-06:45PM.


The family will provide flowers. Memorial contributions in his name may be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s research, P.O. Box 5014 Hagerstown, MD 21741-5014.
