John Deitrick Auten, 85, of Danville, PA, passed away peacefully on October 8, 2022.


 

 

DANVILLE, PA ~ John Deitrick Auten, 85, of Danville, PA, passed away peacefully on October 8, 2022, at Geisinger Medical Center. He was born February 27, 1937, in Danville PA, the son of the late Peter and Viola Deitrich Auten.


John graduated from Danville High School.


He is survived by his devoted wife of 64 years, Reita Woodruff Auten. They were married December 28, 1957.


John enjoyed being a farmer, truck driver, wine maker and mule skinner. He was also employed and well known as a Pennsylvania Dog Warden in Columbia and Montour Counties.


He was a member of Mooresburg Methodist Church, the Liberty Township Fire Company and Tom Mix Rangers Trail Riding Club.


John was an avid hunter. He loved his sons, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and gave them the greatest gift of his love and his time, being actively involved throughout their lives.


In addition to his wife, he is survived by four sons: George Auten and his wife Holly, Wayne Auten, Peter Auten and his wife Tamera and Adrian Auten; all of Danville PA. Also surviving are nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.


He was preceded in death by seven siblings: Mildred Ferry, Robert Auten, Margaret Moorhead, Jean Seifert, Ruth George, Harold Auten and Donald Auten.


A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, October 29, 2022, at 11:00 AM at Mooresburg Methodist Church 23 Sholes Road Danville PA with Reverend Dwayne Nichols officiating. Friends will be received from 9:00 – 10:45 AM at the church.


Memorial Contributions may be made to the Mooresburg Methodist Church Cemetery 23 Sholes Road Danville PA or Liberty Township Fire Company 127 Mooresburg Road Danville PA 17821.
