Luther Lee "Cookie" Cooke, 92, of Danville PA went home to his Lord on Friday, September 23, 2022



DANVILLE, PA ~ Luther Lee "Cookie" Cooke, 92, of Danville PA went home to be with his Lord on Friday, September 23, 2022, at his residence. He was born October 28, 1929, in West Hemlock Township PA the son of the late Alvin W. and Lois L. Hilliard Cooke.
He was married for 72 years to the love of his life, Lois Jane Walker Cooke whom he married June 10, 1950.
He graduated from Danville High School in 1947. He proudly served his country as a US Navy Medic Corpsman from 1948-1952. Lee was employed by the US Postal Service as a rural letter carrier where he was named Pennsylvania's Rural Letter Carrier of the Year in 1981. He had also been very active in the Rural Carrier's Association for over 20 years where he served as the State Treasurer for nine years and as the State President. He was also President of the local chapter. After retiring from the US Postal Service on January 2, 1989, he was elected as Montour County Treasurer and served from 1990-1998. Lee was a highly valued part-time funeral assistant for the Visneski Funeral Home, Inc. since 1998.
Lee was a member of St. Paul's (Straub's) Lutheran Church Danville, where he was very active serving as a Bible Class Teacher, a Lay Speaker for over 40 years and served on the Cemetery Board. He was a Hunter Education instructor for PA Game Commission for 35 years and a Life Member of the Buckhorn Hunting Camp. Lee was very active in the Boy Scouts and served as Master of Valley Grange #1184 along with various other offices for over 50 years. He was the co-founder of the Valley Township Fire Company in 1972 where he was a life member. Lee was also a life member of East End and Washington Fire and Hose Company and a social member of Continental Hose Company and Friendship Fire Company. His other memberships included Loyal Order of the Moose #1133 and American Legion Post #40 where he was a life member.
Lee was an avid outdoorsman who loved to camp, hunt and fish. He will be remembered for his deep love and concern for his many friends and devoted family, all of whom he adored.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son Mark W. Cooke and his wife Chris of Shickshinny PA. Also surviving are four grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one sister, Nancy I. Styer of Danville PA and his daughter-in-law Karyn Cooke of Danville PA. Lee was preceded in death by one son, David E. Cooke and one brother, LaRue Cooke.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Lee’s life to be held Tuesday, September 27, 2022, at 11:00 AM at St. Paul's (Straub's) Lutheran Church 639 Frosty Valley Road Danville PA with the Reverend Vicki Schaffner officiating. Friends will be received from 9:00 AM – 10:45 AM at the church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Post 40 Honor Guard and the United States Navy Honor Guard
