Sherry Lee Kunkel, age 75, of Danville PA, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 16, 2022


DANVILLE, PA ~ Sherry Lee Kunkel, age 75, of Danville PA, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Wednesday, November 16, 2022, at her residence. She was born June 5, 1947, in Danville PA, the daughter of the late William F. and Mabel Irene Rooke.
Sherry graduated from Danville High School.
She is survived by her husband of 29 years, Jeffery Duke Kunkel. They were married January 28, 1993.
Sherry was employed in the Patients Account Department at Geisinger Medical Center for over 34 years, from where she retired.
She was a member of Faith Chapel in Danville PA.
She enjoyed crafting, shopping and especially enjoyed playing “Cornball” a.k.a. Cornhole with her family. She cherished her family Disney trips. One of her favorite pastimes was “signing” I Love You to all of those she loved dearly, including her dog, Mocha.
Sherry was known by her family and friends to be incredibly caring, kind and selfless. She will be remembered for her warmhearted demeanor and generous spirit to her children and grandchildren. She lived her life with bravery and courage and managed her illness without complaint. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons: James Whitesell and his companion Kari Davis of Danville PA and Lee William Whitesell and his wife Karen Ellis of Millville PA; two daughters: Marene “Renee” E. Swartz and her companion Steven Craven of Danville PA and Mia Marinaro and her companion Olivia Duke of Bethlehem PA; and one stepdaughter, Christine Kunkel.
Also surviving are 15 grandchildren: Breanne, James, Jared, Taryn, Joel, Alyssa, Angelina, Raeanna, Makenna, Isaiah, Madison, Elizabeth, Silas, Chance and Khloe and 19 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one great-granddaughter, Kyla Lee Zimmerman on April 25, 2019, and two brothers, Joe and Robert Hickey and five sisters: Anna, Ruth, Lila, Rose and Betty. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Sherry’s Life to be held on Sunday, November 27, 2022, at 3:00 PM at Faith Chapel 2553 Center Road Danville PA
with Pastor Bill Renno officiating. Friends will be received from 1:30 PM until 2:45 PM.
The family will provide flowers. Memorial contributions may be made to the church or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital 501 St. Jude Pl. Memphis, TN 38105-9959
