Shirley Hummer Gallagher, 87, of Philadelphia PA passed away Monday evening, February 7, 2022


 


 

PHILADELPHIA, PA ~ Shirley Hummer Gallagher, 87, of Philadelphia PA and with family roots in the Danville PA area passed away Monday evening, February 7, 2022, at her residence. She was born May 5, 1934, in Danville, PA, the daughter of the late Albert Kern and Catherine Moser Hummer.


She was married for 13 years to the late Joseph Aloyius Gallagher, Sr. who preceded her in death in 1976. They were married August 23, 1963.


Shirley was employed in Housekeeping at Charter Behavioral Health Hospital for 20 years, from where she retired


She was a member of St John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church in Manayunk, PA.


Shirley enjoyed watching the Food Network and going to the casino with her friends. She will be remembered for her kindness and her blunt personality. She will be especially remembered as “Mrs. G.”, the Pool Maintenance Attendant at Venice Island in Manayunk, PA. She was deeply devoted to her family, all of whom she adored.


She is survived by one son Patrick J. Gallagher of Manayunk, PA and one daughter, Maria Elena Killen and her husband Michael of Deptford, NJ and one stepson, John Francis Gallagher of Plymouth Meeting, PA. Also surviving are two grandsons; John Paul and Michael Joseph and two granddaughters: Christie Lee and Elizabeth Katherine; six great-grandchildren: Omar, Luis, Daniel, McKenzie, Lianna, and Isabella arriving in June 2022. She is survived by one sister, Darlis Ann Hummer Fausnaught of Danville, PA and numerous nieces and nephews.


She was preceded in death by one stepson, Joseph A. Gallagher, Jr. in 2020. Also preceding her in death were five brothers: Albert, Eugene, John, Donald, and Carl and five sisters; Mary, Louise, Ruth, Lydia, and Dorothy.


Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Catholic Prayer Service on Friday, February 11, 2022, at 2:00 PM at Visneski Funeral Home, Inc.42 West Mahoning Street Danville PA with Father Timothy Marcoe as Celebrant. Friends will be received from 1:00 PM until 1:45 PM Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery (use Odd Fellows Cemetery entrance) 1350 Bloom Road in Danville, PA.
