Shirley LaRue Huntington,91,of Bloomsburg, PA, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 24, 2023



BLOOMSBURG, PA ~ Shirley LaRue Huntington, 91, of Bloomsburg, PA, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 24, 2023, at Bloomsburg Care and Rehabilitation Center. She was born in Shamokin, PA, the daughter of the late Joseph E. and Gertrude Adams Paul.

Shirley graduated from Danville Area High School in 1950.

She was married to the late Ira T. Huntington, Sr who passed on March 12, 1996.

Shirley was employed by PennDOT as a clerical supervisor and then by Allied Kear Apartments as Project Manager from where she retired.

Shirley was an avid reader and loved listening to music. She attended worship and fellowship services at Glad Tidings Church in Bloomsburg, PA. Shirley especially enjoyed spending time with her furry companion, Morris the cat. Shirley’s greatest enjoyment in life was spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by two daughters; Judy Huntington of Berwick, PA and Diane Strausser and her husband Jim of Sunset Beach, North Carolina. Shirley is also survived by seven grandchildren; Charles Stabler & Loretta, Jeremy Stabler & Megan, Jason Stabler & Beth, Jennifer Jurgill & Jason, Amanda Strausser & Brandon, Stephanie Yoder & George, and Kristen Huntington & Keith; twelve great-grandchildren and one great-grandson. She is also survived by one sister; Phyllis Young and her husband Michael of Buffalo, Wyoming and one brother; Marlin “Butch” Paul & Diane of Stonington, PA.

In addition to her parents and husband, Shirley was preceded in death by one son; Ira Huntington, Jr.; one great-grandson; Christopher Stabler; one sister; Alice Shultz and two brothers; Richard Paul, and Edward Paul.

Services will be held at a later date.
