Shirley T. Young Heddings, 93, of Danville PA passed away March 2, 2022, at her residence. She was born August 19, 1928, in Danville, PA the daughter of the late Kathryn Young.
Shirley was married for 69 ½ years to Calvin J. Heddings who passed away on May 4, 2017. They were married on December 28, 1947.
She graduated from Danville Area High School in 1946.
Shirley was a devoted homemaker for her family. She was an avid seamstress, enjoyed quilting and yardwork. One of her favorite past times was picking dandelions in the morning with her husband.
Shirley was an active member of St. James (Ridgeville) United Church of Christ Danville, PA, where she served as a Sunday school teacher, involved in Vacation Bible School as well as many fundraisers.
Her greatest enjoyment in life was spending time with her family, all of whom she adored.
She is survived by two sons; John “Jay” Heddings and his wife Daryl of Bloomsburg PA and Matthew T. Heddings and his wife Carrie of Roanoke, VA and two daughters; D. Jane Baer of Danville PA and Jolene “Jody” McDonald of Seven Valleys PA. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren along with one great-great-grandchild. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive her.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one brother; Donald Young and one son in-law; John McDonald.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Shirley’s Life to be held on Wednesday, March 9, 2022, at 2:00 PM at St. James (Ridgeville) United Church of Christ 2507 Bloom Road Danville PA with the Reverend Michael Jarrett officiating. Friends will be received from 12:00 Noon until 1:45 PM. Burial will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery Danville PA.
The family will provide flowers. Memorial contributions may be made to the church.
