Sister Anne Marie Solomon, RGS, 106, of Danville, PA passed away on Saturday, February 26, 2022, at Emmanuel Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Danville, PA. Sister was born March 8, 1916, in Peckville, PA, the daughter of the late Andrew and Mary Solack Solomon.
Sister Anne Marie graduated from Holy Ghost School in Olyphant, PA in 1931 and St. Patrick’s High School in 1935. Subsequently, she attended Villanova University and earned a Masters in Biology and Certifications in four other subjects.
She entered the Sisters of the Good Shepherd in Germantown, PA in 1936. She made her first vows in 1938. Her years of service as a Sister of the Good Shepherd were as Principal and Teacher in the ministries of the religious community. Her missionary heart also led her to service in Alaska, Guam, and Japan.
In later years she said of herself, “Professed in 1938, I am now one of the ancients. I was a teacher for most of my life…I also was a missionary, having served in Alaska, Guam, and Japan. For two years now, I have been ‘forced’ into retirement because of impaired vision. Nevertheless, I do keep busy doing many things I love. The Good Shepherd, is my life.”
She is survived by one brother, Cyril Solomon of Scranton PA, numerous nieces and nephews and grand-nieces and grand-nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Maria Hall at the convenience of Sister Anne Marie’s religious community with Reverend Patrick Devine as Celebrant.
