MASS AND MEMORIAL UPDATE: Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial for Francis Dick on Saturday, August 6, 2022, at 11am at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 68 Center Street, Danville, PA with Father Timothy Marcoe as Celebrant. Friends and family will be received from 9:30am-10:45am in Hubert's Chapel. Burial will be held in All Saints Cemetery, Elysburg, PA.

Former Respiratory Care Manager and Skilled Nursing Care Administrator


RIVERSIDE, PA - Francis Joseph Dick of Riverside, PA passed away on June 8, 2022 at his home and entered peacefully into the presence of the Lord. He was born on August 29, 1945 in Shamokin, PA, the third child of the late Ralph Dick and Mary Kathleen (Driscoll) Dick.


He attended Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic High School in Shamokin, graduating in 1963. He was adopted by the Diocese and began his studies for the priesthood at St. Charles College and Seminary in Catonsville, Maryland, withdrawing in November of 1965. He accepted a position as a nursing orderly at Geisinger Medical Center in September 1966 and began his studies in Inhalation Therapy at St. Joseph Hospital in Lancaster, PA, graduating in December 1967. He also graduated from Wilkes University with a Master’s degree in Nursing Home Administration in 1992.


His first assignment was at the Williamsport Hospital as the Assistant Chief Inhalation Therapist to continue the setup of a new department. During his tenure there, he established Pulmonary Function testing, formalized the Cardiac response team, and initiated a Respiratory Technician training program, graduating the first class of four in June of 1970.


While working at Williamsport Hospital, he met and married his wife, Susan Ann Stocum, on June 21, 1969 at St Edward Church in Shamokin, PA. Shortly afterward, they moved to Danville, where he accepted a position at Geisinger Medical Center with the Inhalation Therapy Department to assist with the establishment of a state of the art Pulmonary Laboratory. In 1978, he was appointed Manager of Respiratory Care Services, which incorporated Respiratory Therapy, Pulmonary Lab, and a Sleep Disorders Laboratory. He remained working at Geisinger until 1995. He then served as a Nursing Home Administrator over the next 19 years for a number of facilities, including St. Joseph Living Center in Reading, the Ridgeview Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Shenandoah, and Millville Health Center in Millville. He retired in 2014.


Frank was active in his community, playing drums with the American Legion Band, later the Danville Community Band, since the 1970s, serving as President during his time with the band. He enjoyed music and traveling, having visited Germany four times on band exchanges and hosting musicians from Germany three times. He was a member of the Danville Kiwanis Club, serving as both Vice President and President during his time there. He was also a 3rd Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus. He was a longtime member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Danville, where he served on Parish Council, as an Extraordinary Minister and as a CCD teacher with his wife, Sue. Additionally, he participated in the adoration chapel devotions for many years. He enjoyed reaching out to communicate with many people over the years, sharing his strong faith and friendship.


Frank was preceded in death in 2021 by Sue, his wife of 51 years, and in 2014 by his brother, Robert Dick. He will be greatly missed by his three children: daughter Michele Marie Comisiak (Jonathan) of Riverside, PA and sons Christopher David Dick (Tanya) of Harrisburg, PA and Michael Patrick Dick of Bloomsburg, PA; his grandchildren: Kathleen, Jessica, and Jackson; his sister Elizabeth Ann Kline (Robin) of Trevorton, PA, as well as a niece and nephews. He will also be greatly missed by Donna Snyder, his primary caregiver of the last 18 months.

Friends and family will be received from 9:30am-10:45am in Hubert's Chapel. Burial will be held in All Saints Cemetery, Elysburg, PA.


Interment will be at All Saint’s Cemetery in Elysburg.


Memorial donations can be made in his name to St. Joseph Church, Danville, PA.
